Salma Hayek has joined the voice cast of the raunchy animated feature “Sausage Party” about a sausage’s search to uncover the truth of his existence.

Seth Rogan, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, Edward Norton and David Krumholtz also voice characters in the R-rated feature which is aiming for a 2015 release. [Source: Moviehole]

Brie Larson (“Short Term 12”) has signed on for Lenny Abrahamson’s indie drama “Room”. Emma Donoghue adapted the script from her own 2010 bestseller.

Larson plays Ma, a woman kidnapped as a teenager who has been held captive for years in a tiny room where she lives with her five-year-old son Jack. To the boy, the room is the only world there is. [Source: Deadline]

Mae Whitman (“Parenthood”) is in negotiations to star in the film adaptation of Kody Keplinger’s coming-of-age novel “The DUFF” for CBS Films. Ari Sandel was attached to direct last year and filming is slated to begin in Atlanta this summer.

The story follows a high school senior who learns she has been labeled her group of friend’s DUFF (designated ugly fat friend). She becomes determined to reinvent herself, enlisting her fellow DUFFs in a scheme to overthrow the school’s evil queen. [Source: Variety]

Carrie Brownstein (“Portlandia”) has joined Todd Haynes’ lesbian drama “Carol” starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. Brownstein will play Genevieve Cantrell, a woman who has an encounter with Mara’s character.

Based on Patricia Highsmith’s book The Price of Salt, the story follows Therese (Mara), a department store clerk in 1950s New York who becomes obsessed with another woman (Blanchett). [Source: THR]
