It’s a big week for young male actors in Hollywood with various upcoming 2014 tentpole movies having whittled down to a handful of finalists for key roles.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
First up, Dane DeHaan (“Chronicle”), Brady Corbet (“Melancholia”) and Alden Ehrenreich (“Beautiful Creatures”) will all try out for the role of Harry Osborn in the upcoming “The Amazing Spider-Man” sequel which shoots in February.
Originally created for an athletic and bulkier actor, the part is now being reshaped with a “dark and edgy thespian” in mind.
Next up, the likes of Hunter Parrish (“Weeds”), Luke Grimes (“Taken 2”), Landon Liboiron (“Terra Nova”), Brenton Thwaites (“Blue Lagoon: The Awakening”), and Jack Reynor will be testing for the role of the race-car driver boyfriend of the daughter of Mark Wahlberg’s character in the upcoming fourth “Transformers”.
Nicola Peltz and Isabelle Cornish are auditioning to play the daughter and whichever actors win these two roles, both are expected to be signed up for three-picture deals.
Funnily enough both Thwaites and Reynor have just participated in ‘chemistry readings’ for the adaptation of Neil Burger’s novel “Divergent” at Summit Entertainment. The pair, along with Luke Bracey (“Home and Away”) and Lucas Till (“X-Men: First Class”), are trying out for the love interest role opposite Shailene Woodley.
That film is set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into factions based on human traits. A 16-year-old leaves her faction to join a rival one and falls in love with a young man.
