The Hot Zone
Topher Grace, Noah Emmerich, Liam Cunningham, James D’Arcy, Paul James, Nick Searcy, Robert Wisdom, and Robert Sean Leonard will join previously announced series lead Julianna Margulies in the National Geographic mini-series “The Hot Zone”.
Based on the Richard Preston novel, the six-episode event series is inspired by the true story of the origins of the Ebola virus and its arrival on U.S. soil in 1989. Production begins today in Toronto and will also shoot in South Africa in early December ahead of a 2019 airing. [Source: Variety]
Call of the Wild
“The Intouchables” and “Jurassic World” star Omar Sy is set to join Harrison Ford, Dan Stevens and Colin Woodell in the new Jack London novel adaptation “Call of the Wild”.
Ford plays John Thornton, a prospector searching for gold in the unforgiving Yukon, while Sy’s role is unknown. Chris Sanders helms from a script by Michael Green with shooting to take place in California. [Source: Variety]
Former “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul is joining the third season of HBO’s sci-fi drama series “Westworld”. Paul will be a series regular but specifics are unknown.
This reportedly won’t conflict with Apple’s upcoming anthology drama series “Are You Sleeping?” where Paul has a series regular deal for a one-season arc. [Source: Deadline]
Joan Chen, Hayden Szeto, Hong-Chi Lee, Yo-Hsing Fang, Fiona Fu, Margot Bingham, Kuei Mei Yang and James Saito have been cast in Netflix’s upcoming family drama film “Tigertail” from “Master of None” co-creator Alan Yang.
The multi-generational family drama stars in the 1950s and will tell stories of ‘regret, longing, passion, and repression’. John Cho, Tzi Ma and Christine Ko also star with Yag serving as director, writer and producer along with a small role on screen. [Source: The Wrap]
Grammy winner Idina Menzel has signed on to join the cast of “Good Time” directors The Safdie Brothers’ “Uncut Gems” at A24 & Netflix. Lakeith Stanfield and Eric Bogosian co-star in the film which will shoot later this year.
Set in the Diamond District of New York City, Adam Sandler plays a jewelry store owner with a gambling addiction while trying to handle two relationships and debts at once. Menzel is set to play as Sandler’s wife. [Source: Deadline]
Alexander Ludwig (“Vikings,” “The Hunger Games”) is set to join the ensemble cast of Roland Emmerich and Lionsgate’s World War II action feature “Midway”. Woody Harrelson, Patrick Wilson, Ed Skrein, Aaron Eckhart, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, Darren Criss, and Nick Jonas co-star.
Based on the true story of the Battle of Midway, a turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II, the film chronicles the exploits of the soldiers and aviators involved in the fight. The project is set to begin shooting next month. [Source: Variety]
