Domhnall Gleeson is reportedly in talks to join Tom Cruise and Sarah Wright in Doug Liman’s “Mena” at Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and Cross Creek. Gary Spinelli penned the script and Brian Grazer, Brian Oliver, Doug Davidson and Tyler Thompson will produce.
The story follows a TWA pilot recruited by the CIA to provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America. Seal finds himself in charge of one of the biggest covert CIA operations in the history of the U.S., one that spawned the birth of the Medellin cartel and the Iran Contra scandal. [Source: Variety]
Fred Armisen is set to join the cast of the “Zoolander” sequel, the actor announcing the news on his social media accounts which the film’s director Ben Stiller later confirmed in a video announcement. No word as yet regarding Armisen’s role in the comedy. [Source: THR]
The Magnificent Seven
Wagner Moura (“Elysium”) is set to join the cast of Antoine Fuqua’s “The Magnificent Seven” remake. Moura will play a member of the seven, a gunslinger called Vasquez. He joins a cast that includes Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Chris Pratt, Haley Bennett, Luke Grimes and Vincent D’Onofrio.
The story follows a small gold mining town threatened by a ruthless baron and his gang of thugs. When they kill several people in their attempt to take the place over, a young widow (Bennett) hires a bounty hunter (Washington) to dispatch the villains, supplying him with the necessary funds to hire six gunmen to help him in his mission. W. Earl Brown (“Deadwood”) has joined the cast of AMC’s drama pilot “Preacher” based on the cult 1990s comic. Brown will play Sheriff Hugo Root, the mean-hearted redneck father of Eugene Root aka Arseface (Ian Colletti).
The series follows Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. He and two others embark on a journey to literally find God. [Source: Deadline]
John Malkovich is set to join Mark Wahlberg in Peter Berg’s oil-rig disaster drama “Deepwater Horizon” for Lionsgate. Kurt Russell, Dylan O’Brien and Gina Rodriguez also star.
The story deals with the infamous British Petroleum oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico that caught fire and exploded in 2010 – resulting in the largest offshore oil spill in United States history. Malkovich will play a stubborn BP representative who underestimates the danger of the work being done. [Source: THR]
