Brave New World
“Downton Abbey” star Jessica Brown Findlay will play the female lead opposite Alden Ehrenreich and Harry Lloyd in the series adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s novel “Brave New World” for UCP, Amblin Television. It’s expected to be a potential flagship series for the NBCU streaming platform in 2020.
Budgeted at a whopping $10 million an episode, the series imagines a utopian society that has achieved peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself. Gina Rodriguez (“Annihilation”) is set to star in “Awake” at Netflix and Entertainment One, the new film from “Kodachrome” director Mark Raso. Raso wrote the script with Joseph Raso and Greg Poirer while Paul Schiff is producing.
Rodriguez plays an ex-soldier with a troubled past who holds the key to a cure after a sudden global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep. Elle heads back to high school for her senior year and must juggle a long-distance relationship, getting into her dream college with her best friend Lee (Courtney), and the complications brought on by a close friendship with a handsome, charismatic new classmate named Marco (Perez). The Old Guard
Matthias Schoenaerts and Luca Marinelli have joined the cast of the Charlize Theron-led action thriller “The Old Guard” for Skydance and Netflix. Based on Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez’s comic, Gina Prince-Bythewood is directing the project.
The story follows a small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy (Theron), who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, they soon discover the existence of a new immortal (Kiki Layne) at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.
