Rebel in the Rye
Zoey Deutch has landed the sought-after role of Oona O’Neill in Danny Strong’s J.D. Salinger biopic “Rebel In The Rye” starring Nicholas Hoult as the author alongside Kevin Spacey, Laura Dern, Brian D’Arcy James and Hope Davis.

Oona O’Neill was the daughter of playwright Eugene O’Neill and the toast of the New York City social scene, a fixture in gossip columns. She and a young Salinger dated and had a tumultuous relationship. [Source: EW]

Miss Sloane
Meghann Fahy (“Next to Normal”) has joined the cast of John Madden’s “Miss Sloane” at EuropaCorp and FilmNation. The story follows a ruthless and highly successful political strategist (Jessica Chastain) who exposes the cutthroat world of D.C lobbyists on both sides of the gun legislation debate.

Fahy steps into the part of Clara, a lobbyist on Chastain’s team who gets bamboozled by one of her bosses’ ploys. [Source: Deadline]

British actor Luke Allen-Gale (“Dominion”) has been cast as the male lead opposite Aussie Laura Brent and Canadian Evan Stern in genre-themed drama pilot “Transylvania” at The CW. Jason Ensler directs and Hugh Sterbakov pens the series.

The 1880 set pilot and centers on Victoria (Brent), a headstrong young woman in search of her missing father who ventures from NYC to Transylvania where she teams with a wrongfully disgraced Scotland Yard Detective (Allen-Gale) and witness the births of the most famous monsters and villains in history. Hidden Figures
Janelle Monae is joining the cast of the historical space drama “Hidden Figures” at Fox 2000. Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Kevin Costner star in the Ted Melfi-directed film which begins production shortly.

The story will center on three African-American women who were involved in NASA’s Friendship 7 mission, which resulted in astronaut John Glenn become the first American to orbit the Earth in February 1962. [Source: Billboard]
