Penn Badgley (“Greetings from Tim Buckley,” “Gossip Girl”) has joined the cast of Michael Almereyda’s contemporary Shakespeare adaptation “Cymbeline” alongside Ethan Hawke and Ed Harris.

This version swaps the royal setting for that of a biker gang and dirty cops. Badgley would play the key role of Posthumus. [Source: Deadline]

The Surface
Mimi Rodgers will join Sean Astin and Chris Mulkey in Gil Cates Jr.’s thriller “The Surface”. The story follows two desperate men who meet in the middle of Lake Michigan in a boat.

Rogers plays the wife of Mulkey’s character and is seen in flashbacks throughout. Jeff Gendelman wrote the screenplay. [Source: Deadline]

Ali and Nino
Alicia Vikander (“The Fifth Estate,” “A Royal Affair”) is in talks to join Asif Kapadia’s period love story “Ali and Nino”. Shooting aims to begin next year.

In the story, Ali is the male descendant of a royal Muslim family and Nino a beautiful, Christian, Georgian princess. The backdrop is the First World War on the eve of the Bolshevik Revolution. [Source: Screen Daily]

Hyena
Stephen Graham (“Boardwalk Empire,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”) has joinced the cast of the London crime thriller “Hyena” at Number 9 Films and Film4. The project is currently halfway through filming.
