Actor Casey Affleck has joined two major upcoming projects – the vigilante thriller “Villain,” and the crime caper “The Old Man and the Gun”.
Mikael Marcimain directs “Villian” from a script that Affleck wrote, while Teddy Schwarzman and Ben Stillman will produce. Set in a city overrun with crime, a brutal home invasion leaves the family of Affleck’s character dead and him with two bullets lodged in his head.
In the wake of his trauma, he develops a unique power – an ability to see into people’s pasts, presents, and futures – and goes on a mission of revenge to find the men who killed his family. As his vigilante acts become more frequent and violent in nature, he begins to change from the city’s new hero to its most prolific villain.
‘Old Man’ meanwhile reunites Affleck with his “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” director David Lowery. Based on a 2003 New Yorker article, Robert Redford stars as Forrest Tucker, a man born in 1920 who, as a lifelong bank robber, spent most of his life in jail or escaping from jail – which he did eighteen times.
Affleck will play a detective who becomes captivated with Tucker’s commitment to his craft and a woman who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.
Redford, James D. Stern, Jeremy Steckler, Dawn Ostroff, Anthony Mastromauro and Bill Holderman are producing and shooting begins in the Spring in Ohio.
