Disney and Pixar have revealed the first details about “Cars 3,” the third film in the animated franchise whose merchandise sales have been a big boon to Disney’s coffers.
USA Today has posted the first artwork from the film along with revealing the first plot details. In this entry, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) needs help to compete in the increasingly high-tech racing world and in the wake of newcomer Jackson Storm beating him.
That’s where the new trainer comes in – a sleek, yellow and young Hispanic female race car who instructs him. The art shows the new character, Cruz Ramirez, instructing McQueen on a beach run as they prepare for the Florida 500 (the film’s equivalent of the Daytona 500).
Director Brian Fee says: “Cruz Ramirez is trying to figure out how this old dog can learn some new tricks. Think of where he’d be in his career now in real time. (McQueen) is not an old man, but he’s one of the older cars on the circuit with new rookies coming in. People start to wonder and ask when he might retire. Jackson Storm is the face of these rookies who have come onto the scene. And McQueen is in a position where his entire racing generation is being pushed out. But it’s too early to be shown the door right now.”
“Cars 3” is slated to hit cinemas on June 16th 2017.
