Joe Carnahan and Frank Grillo’s WarParty production company are teaming with a Calgary investment group for the WarChest Fund, an initiative to create four to five films all budgeted below $20 million and targeting the Hispanic community.
Their next project will be “El Chicano,” co-written by Carnahan and Ben Bray with the former producing and the latter directing. Grillo and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will executive produce.
The story follows two young fraternal twin brothers raised in the toughest barrio of East L.A. The pair couldn’t be more opposite, but they’ve survived the mean streets of Boyle Heights by watching one another’s backs.
This follows on from WarParty’s “Wheelman” which is released this October on Netflix, and the upcoming reimagining of “The Raid” currently in development.
