“Captain Marvel” Profile Getting Raised

DC’s most high-profile female superhero needs no introduction as Wonder Woman has been an iconic part of wider pop culture for decades, despite not having a film to call her own until this year.

In Marvel’s case though, certainly in the days before Scarlett Johansson’s screen turn as Black Widow changed things, those not in the comic world would’ve been hard pressed to name the Marvel equivalent.

Even today the most powerful female character on the company’s roster – Captain Marvel, aka. Carol Danvers – is still a mostly unknown quantity for non-comic fans. With Brie Larson set to play her in the upcoming films, starting with “Avengers: Infinity War” in 2018, the company decided now’s the time to start introducing her to the public at large.

And so comes the first installment of “Captain Marvel: Alien Nation,” a monthly video series akin to last year’s “Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet” series. This one features both Margaret Stohl, writer of the new The Mighty Captain Marvel series, and Sana Amanat, editor and director of content development at Marvel.

The pair explain the backstory behind Carol Danvers and her power set, while also placing the character inside the wider comic book universe. Each of the videos will be set to “some of the world’s biggest female-led musical acts” according to a statement from Marvel.
