2016 marks the 75th birthday of Steve Rogers, aka. Captain America, and to celebrate the city of Brooklyn is set to commemorate the date with a giant bronze statue of the Marvel Comics hero to honor his legacy.
USA Today reports that the 13-foot statue will first appear at San Diego Comic Con at the end of the month, before making a journey across America to land in Prospect Park on August 10th for a special dedication ceremony.
Comicave Studios, who designed the statue alongside Marvel, will also be selling limited edition 1-foot bronze and 3-foot pewter replicas of the monument through their online store.
In related news, one “Captain America” franchise star refuses to believe his character has died. Frank Grillo visited “Good Morning America” this week (via io9) where he said don’t count out his ‘Civil War’ character of Crossbones just yet: “You think he dies, don’t you? Did you see the body? What did you see? I’m not saying anything except that … you didn’t see a body.”
