There have been wars that have gone quicker than the “Captain America” casting saga of the past few weeks. Rampant speculation is rife and every man and his dog seems to have voiced their opinion on who should be cast.
Actually things finally seem to be coming to a head this weekend. It started Friday afternoon when IESB.Net reported that the shortlist of candidates had been narrowed down to just three names – Chris Evans, Channing Tatum and Sebastian Stan.
Stan was the new name to that list, the young actor from “The Covenant” has risen to prominence in recent years on the small screen, demonstrating great work as the scheming son of Ian McShane’s ruler in NBC’s short-lived “Kings”. He’s more recently popped up in a less interesting role in The CW’s “Gossip Girl”.
A few hours later Heat Vision reported that Marvel has apparently offered the role to Chris Evans (who didn’t even screen test), a deal that would include him starring in up to three “America” movies plus “The Avengers” movies and appearances in several other Marvel movies.
The catch is Evans is committed to the rom-com “What’s Your Number?” which is scheduled to shoot this Summer, the same time when ‘America’ kicks off filming in London. The offer hasn’t officially been confirmed by the studio as yet, but it does look like all the talk is finally coming to a close.
