Last week came the news that former “The Thick of It” and “Doctor Who” star Peter Capaldi had been cast in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad,” the semi-sequel/semi-reboot of the 2016 David Ayer film which already boasts an impressive pedigree.
We don’t know yet whom he’ll be playing, but judging by his current look he’s going bald for the role. Capaldi attended Fan Expo Canada the other week, right before his ‘Squad’ casting news was revealed, and during his panel he explained why he shaved it off. He tells Convention Junkies:
“I hope it’s going to come back. No, it’s for – I can’t – you know, at the moment I can’t tell you, not because I don’t want to tell you, but because I’m not allowed to tell you – but I’m going to be completely bald. So – and I said – so, they started it because they had to do some prosthetics. So, they had to take my hair back as much [as possible] and I said, ‘Could you leave a little bit? Because I’m going to Toronto.’ So, they left a little bit and we did some head casts, and stuff. And then I came here, so that’s why. But when I go home, it’s going to go again. All the way.”
Gunn’s film is scheduled to begin shooting later this month in Atlanta which means we’ll probably find out soon. Rampant speculation has already begun with some suggesting he’s playing a new take on Batman villain Mr. Freeze, another indicates he might be the powerful psychic Psimon.
The film also stars Idris Elba, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, David Dastmalchian, Storm Reid, Daniela Melchior and Taika Waititi along with returnees Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman. John Cena and Benicio del Toro are also rumored to be in talks for the film which releases August 6th 2021.
