Campbell Out, Iliades In On “Birds” Remake?

Dennis Iliades (“The Last House on the Left”) has apparently replaced Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale,” “Goldeneye”) in the director’s chair on the remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” at Platinum Dunes reports Pajiba.

According to the site Campbell was apparently aiming for a PG-13 release for the project but as “The Green Lantern” has shaped up his interest in the project waned. Iliades on the other hand has more horror-toned and R-rated plans that will require a rewrite of a script that has already seen numerous scribes take a shot at it.

The aim also seems to be to push the feel of the film even further away from both the previous Hitchcock adaptation and Daphne du Maurier’s original short story, both of which kept the gore level restrained.
