Neve Campbell has signed on to return as Sidney Prescott while Wes Craven is in talks to direct “Scream 4” for Dimension Films reports Variety.
With The Weinstein Company’s finances and future on shaky ground, Dimension topper Bob Weinstein is playing it safe and bringing back both familiar faces and titles to the Dimension genre label.
Though talked about for a while with the hiring of previous cast members Courteney Cox and David Arquette, the fourth “Scream” was looking to be a different kind of affair with neither Campbell or Craven involved. Today’s news though, along with word that the film already has an April/May shooting date targeted, means that the film has suddenly become a much more high profile project.
Dimension and Disney are also developing a 3D fourth “Spy Kids” movie which Robert Rodriguez is writing and will shoot starting in March. Plans are also still in place for “Halloween 3D”, 3D remakes of “Hellraiser” and “Scanners”, and regular remakes of “Children of the Corn,” “Short Circuit” and “An American Werewolf in London”.
