It has been rumoured for a long time but now it’s official, Cameron Crowe (“Vanilla Sky,” “Almost Famous”) has signed on to direct “We Bought a Zoo” for 20th Century Fox says the trades.
An adaptation of a memoir by Benjamin Mee, the story follows a man who used his family’s life savings to buy a dilapidated zoo in the English countryside.
Mee and his children had to balance caring for his terminally ill wife and dealing with all the related animal issues including readying the zoo for a reopening.
Aline Brosh McKenna wrote the original script adaptation which Crowe has been rewriting to reflect his sensibilities. Fox committed to the project on the weekend and has already announced a December 23rd 2011 release date.
The project marks Crowe’s first film since 2005’s “Elizabethtown”. Julie Yorn produces.
