Just as Facebook is finalizing a $5 billion settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, AGBO is reportedly planning a film about young pink-haired data consultant, Christopher Wylie, who was at the center of last year’s Cambridge Analytica data privacy scandal.
David Gordon Green is reportedly in talks to direct the untitled film that already has a finished script by “Avengers: Endgame” scribes Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and has that film’s directors Joe & Anthony Russo attached to produce.
Cambridge Analytica was hired by the Trump and Brexit campaigns to work on social media strategy, allegedly using illegally attained data to do so. Issues of privacy, social media manipulation, targeted advertising, disinformation campaigns, electoral interference, and the global impact on the political landscape of the past few years all come into play. Wylie was initially a facilitator and ultimately a whistleblower in the whole affair.
Green is expected to next helm a follow-up to his 2018 “Halloween” mini-reboot at Blumhouse and Universal, and then will jump to the Analytica scandal feature. AGBO will finance the film which is on a fast track for a 2020 start of production.
