Showtime has picked up its hit series “Californication” for a fifth season, following on from the success of the record-breaking ratings for the fourth-season premiere last week.
The series follows the exploits of writer Hank Moody (David Duchovny) as he works to balance his career, ex-girlfriend, daughter and hedonistic vices. This season, Hank enlists the help of high-powered defense attorney Abby (Carla Gugino) to keep him out of prison after he’s charged with bedding a then-underage Mia (Madeline Zima).
The premiere scored over a million total viewers for the night, the best opener yet for the show. Twelve new episodes of the comedy series will go into production this spring for airing early next year.
