There’s been plenty of promotional material in regards to the Russo brother’s “Captain America: Civil War”. Trailers, posters and stills have shown the various heroes and their battles over differing ideologies this time out. We’ve also seen some of the film’s secondary ‘villains’ such as Frank Grillo’s Crossbones and William Hurt’s General Ross.
One thing that has been kept under wraps though is the primary villain – Baron Zemo. “Rush” actor Daniel Bruhl plays the role and his involvement in the film’s central conflict between Iron Man and Captain America isn’t being revealed until the film opens in a few weeks.
There’s a lot of speculation that he’s the one pulling the strings that set up the conflict, but speaking about the role he tells MCU Exchange that he has been sworn to secrecy:
“I was really told not to because there are so many secrets in the film. And also my character’s quite mysterious, so I’m really scared to say too much. The things I’ve mentioned in interviews before were already too much – and I thought it was nothing!”
Asked about what he liked about the role, he says:
“What I like is it’s not a stereotype. It’s not a guy who’s mean and sinister, but he’s actually very clever – a very smart guy who does everything out of a very understandable reason and motivation. Some of the things that happen in the film, and why they happen, are because of him. He is orchestrating things that happen throughout the film. I think that’s something I can say, goddam it!”
