Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has weighed in on the rumors in recent weeks of potential post-Daniel Craig contenders for the role of James Bond.
Speaking with MSN, the veteran of four Bond films from “Goldeneye” to “Die Another Day” believes that while an actor of any race could play the character, the role has to be specifically male:
“Anything is possible for sure, but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white. There’s wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there’s no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond.
But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be male. James Bond is a guy, he’s all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond.”
The comments follow on from some a few weeks ago when Brosnan vocalised his support for Idris Elba in the role. At the same time he was asked about the idea of a gay James Bond to which he initially responded he’d be fine with it, but that producer Barbara Broccoli wouldn’t allow it to happen in her lifetime.
