Mehcad Brooks is set to leave The CW’s “Supergirl” series during its upcoming fifth season this Fall. The fifth season premieres October 6th.
Brooks has played the role of James Olsen on the show since the series debuted and his departure is said to be so that he can focus on movies and to also develop a cable series the actor could star in. Brooks is also writing a book.
How he will leave isn’t clear, only that he’s exiting during the first half of the season and showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller are keeping the door open should he want to make a return appearance down the line, saying in a statement: “He’ll always be a part of our Supergirl family and we look forward to James returning to National City at some point to visit his sister and his super friends.”
Indeed one cast member who previously exited, Jeremy Jordan, is returning to reprise his role of Winslow ‘Winn’ Schott. Last seen in the third season finale travelling ten centuries into the future, the character will appear in the immediate three episodes that take place after the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event which airs across December and January.
