The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has done a full feature article breaking down and following up last week’s “Star Wars Episode VII” casting news. Talking with sources working directly on the project, they’ve cleared up some of the lingering questions regarding the film’s casting so far.
The initial script by Michael Arndt has been over hauled by J.J. Abrams and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan so much that, due to the characters and plot shifts, casting for the film stalled last year.
It then finally began in earnest in January, though even now several roles have yet to be filled including a major female part. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford were reportedly all slated to return before Disney bought Lucasfilm back in late 2012.
The mag also confirms a recent rumor – that Harrison Ford’s Han Solo is essentially a co-lead alongside three of the younger characters. It’s not yet known which three they are referring to.
