It was FOX’s turn at the Television Critics Association press tour today with the network making several key announcements:
The animated series is set to do a special one-hour episode for its twenty-eighth season. The special episode will debut in January and will include “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson and comedian Keegan-Michael Key as guest stars.
Titled “The Great Phatsby,” the episode has Mr. Burns (Harry Shearer) triying to relive his glory days and crosses paths with a mysterious music mogul. After being conned by him and reduced to bankruptcy, Mr. Burns seeks revenge on the music producer with the help of Homer, Bart, rapper Jazzy James (Keegan-Michael Key) and the mogul’s ex-wife, Praline (Henson).
Asked about the decision to renew supernatural drama “Sleepy Hollow” for a fourth season despite the loss of the female lead and weak ratings, Fox Entertainment President David Madden says:
“This was obviously a very hard conversation. Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie were the spine of the show in a lot of ways, so it was difficult to figure out if it was the right thing to do, to continue or not. But the producers pitched us an array of new characters and new situations for Crane to get into. The first seven scripts are really fun, we think there’s a lot of good new stories to tell.”
Mariah Carey is set to guest-star on the upcoming third season of its musical drama “Empire”. Carey will play Kitty, a superstar collaborating with Jamal (Jussie Smollett) on an explosive new tune.
When their duet hits a few obstacles, Kitty helps Jamal dig deep to overcome personal difficulties and reach a musical breakthrough. The episode will air October 5th.
