Brief “Batman,” “Avengers,” “Star Wars” Talk

A couple of brief updates on a few major blockbusters. This week Jake Gyllenhaal was out giving interviews as the new face of Cartier luxury watches. He was asked straight up by CNA Lifestyle if he’s playing the next Bruce Wayne/Batman, as it has been rumored he could replace Ben Affleck in Matt Reeves solo “The Batman” film.

Gyllenhaal responded with a definitive: “Wow, that’s a very difficult question. The answer to that question is ‘no’.” At last report Reeves is still writing the script for the project so it’s unclear how far off it is.

Next up, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have teased what could come next for the “Avengers” beyond next year’s fourth film and once they get well into the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Joe tells Internaute: “We’ll say that if that Fox deal goes through with Disney there’s a lot more characters to work with all of a sudden, it would be interesting to do something like ‘Secret Wars’.” The storyline in the comics saw the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic 4 transported to a planet to participate in gladiatorial games.

Finally, Express UK (via Movieweb) has posted a report alleging that the reason filmmaker Colin Trevorrow was let go (and replaced by J.J. Abrams) on “Star Wars: Episode IX” came down to Luke Skywalker.

It alleges Trevorrow wanted to keep him, everyone else wanted to kill him off so the focus would be on the new characters in the trilogy capper. Trevorrow landed on his feet though, with him set to direct the third “Jurassic World” film following on from his rise to fame directing the first.
