Brian K Vaughn To Pen Live Action Gundam

Celebrated “Y: The Last Man” creator and “Lost” writer Brian K. Vaughan has been set to both executive produce and pen the screenplay for the planned live-action film adaptation of Sunrise’s popular mecha anime franchise “Gundam” at Legendary.

Legendary and Sunrise first announced the film being in development eight months ago. Launched in 1979 with acclaimed anime “Mobile Suit Gundam,” the distant future-set series followed the war between the Earth Federation and the rebellious space colonies of the Principality of Zeon.

In one of these colonies, the Earth Federation is storing and testing a new piloted robot for use. The experimental RX-78 Gundam mobile suit is forced into combat with a civilian pilot and an untested crew trying to transport it to the Federation’s HQ on Earth.

The series helped popularise the giant robot genre which led to the likes of the iconic “Neon Genesis Evangelion” and films such as “Pacific Rim”.
