With the “World War Z” sequel now having been pulled from the release slate and with no production schedule set for it, Brad Pitt’s immediate plans seem to have freed up.
Sources tell Deadline the front-runner for his next film is the sci-fi epic “Ad Astra” which James Gray (“The Lost City of Z”) co-wrote with Ethan Gross and will direct.
Pitt would play the slightly autistic space engineer who, twenty years after his father left on a one-way mission to Neptune in order to find signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence, travels through the solar system to find him and understand why his mission failed.
The project is reportedly on the verge of landing at New Regency, where Plan B has a production deal, and could be in shooting by summer.
Paramount and Plan B are continuing to work on the “World War Z 2” script, with David Fincher linked to the project.
