Bowers Helms Second “Wimpy Kid” Tale

David Bowers (“Flushed Away”) will make his live-action directing debut on “Diary of Wimpy Kid 2: Roderick Rules”, a sequel to this year’s family comedy hit at Fox 2000 says The Hollywood Reporter.

Zachary Gordon, Steve Zahn and Rachael Harris will all reprise their roles in this follow-up which will once again be based on the Jeff Kinney young adult novel series.

Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah adapted the script while the story this time focuses on Greg Heffley, who this time around must deal with the punishments inflicted by his older brother Roderick.

Made for a modest $15 million, the film had a quiet opening in mid-March and yet went on to gross almost $64 million domestically. Bowers replaces Thor Freudenthal who helmed the first film but opted not to return for the sequel.

Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce. Shooting aims to kick off this August in Vancouver for a March 2011 release.
