ABC has officially confirmed that the planned revival of beloved family sitcom “Roseanne” has been greenlit with eight episodes set to debut mid-season (sometime early 2018) on the network.
The entire original cast – Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky) – will return.
Also back is Sarah Chalke, who played Becky in some of the later seasons and will take on another role here. Also clear is that Goodman’s Dan is still alive despite the finale suggesting he’d apparently died of a heart attack. How the revival will deal with the final moments of the series finale, in which a monologue changed around much of the relationships, is unclear at present.
“Roseanne” will be ABC’s sole multi-camera comedy next season, following the cancellations of Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” and “Dr. Ken”.
