Borgias’ Arnaund Eyed For “Fifty Shades”

The casting directors for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” film adaptation are looking to swap out one cable series hunk for another.

Montreal-born Francois Arnaud has reportedly been added to the short list for the lead male role of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey in the film adaptation of the E.L. James best-seller.

Arnaud is best known for his role as Cesare Borgia, the son of Jeremy Irons’ Pope Alexander XVI, in Showtime’s now finished series “The Borgias”. He also played Xavier Dolan’s love interest in Dolan’s debut film “I Killed My Mother”.

Arnaud joins the likes Alexander Skarsgard (“True Blood”) and Jamie Dornan (“The Fall”) who’re all in contention for the role since the departure of “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam.

No offer for the role has been made yet. Dakota Johnson is still set to play Anastasia Steele, the young college student who has a steamy affair with the billionaire.

Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing from a screenplay written by Kelly Marcel, with Patrick Marber currently performing a polish. Filming is slated to begin next month in Vancouver.
