With Daniel Craig indicating in an interview this week that the upcoming “Spectre” might be his final outing as James Bond, the betting over who his potential replacement might be has taken on new life.
Variety has spoken with Irish online bookmaker BoyleSports who has taken a poll regarding possible replacements and one name has moved up on the list – Tom Hardy.
Spokesman Liam Glynn says Hardy is now at 4/1 odds of taking over from Craig. That puts him equal second with current Superman Henry Cavill for the part. Cavill was in contention for the role in “Casino Royale” but was beaten by Craig, but this franchise has shown it has had a habit of hiring previously failed contenders for the role the next time around such as with Moore, Dalton and Brosnan.
“Luther” star Idris Elba and “Homeland” actor Damian Lewis remain the top favorited at 3/1. Other contenders are said to be Michael Fassbender, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Dougray Scott, Rupert Friend and Dominic West. Despite Craig’s hesitance to return, he is officially contracted for one more Bond film after “Spectre”.
