As each season of Netflix’s “The Crown” tackles a new decade in the lives of the British royal family, it has necessitated the entire cast of the series to be swapped out every two seasons with older actors taking on the role.
The third season sees Olivia Colman taking the throne as Queen Elizabeth II, replacing Claire Foy. Now a second piece of casting has happened with Helena Bonham Carter to replace Vanessa Kirby as Elizabeth’s reckless sister Princess Margaret.
They key role of Philip, played by Matt Smith in the first two seasons, has yet to be announced. Early production is underway though technically the series has yet to get an official green light. It is due in late 2018 or early 2019.
