Appearing at a gala screening of his dark sci-fi drama “Snowpiercer” at the Busan festival, South Korean director Bong Joon-ho has revealed that he’s distinctly unhappy with the cuts being made to his film in western territories.
Bong called out to North Americans, Brits and Australians in the audience that the version they saw at the festival was the only chance to see the film as he intended it to be watched.
The Weinstein Company is handling distribution for the film in English-speaking territories, but will only be releasing the cut down version which could be up to twenty minutes shorter.
“We are still in discussions about the cut, but it is clear that this is the only director’s cut you will be able to see” Bong told attendees.
Variety adds that while publicly he’s saying the cut down version is only “a little bit different,” privately “he is furious”.
Non-English speaking territories such as France, Taiwan and Japan will get the longer cut.
