“The Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men” creator Chuck Lorre is getting into drama with plans for a new event series adaptation of the famed 1987 Tom Wolfe novel “Bonfire of the Vanities” for Amazon and Warner Bros. TV.
Margaret Nagle (“Boardwalk Empire,” “Red Band Society”) will write and serve as executive producer alongside Lorre on the project with Mother Jones’ David Corn serving as a consultant.
The story is a drama about ambition, racism, social class, politics, and greed in 1980s New York City and centers on three main characters: WASP bond trader Sherman McCoy, Jewish assistant district attorney Larry Kramer, and British expatriate journalist Peter Fallow
The project is being conceived as a single run of eight episodes for Amazon Prime Video. Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith starred in the previous 1990 film adaptation which was both a critical and commercial bomb.
