Bond Scribes Target Barbarella

Producers Dino and Martha De Laurentiis have completed a rights deal that will allow them to reinvent “Barbarella” reports Variety.

Scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, best known for penning the last three James Bond films (“Casino Royale,” “Die Another Day,” “The World is Not Enough”) will do the script.

The original 1968 Roger Vadim-directed fantasy film (based on the 1962 Jean-Claude Forest comic) had Jane Fonda as the intergalactic sexpot. In the remake, the scribes will make Barbarella “a free, modern gal who survives in a futuristic world through her intelligence, fighting skills and sexuality”.

No doubt the ‘Excessive Machine’ that produces death via orgasm will not be included, but one has no doubt that there’ll be much speculation not only as to who’ll play the Queen of the Galaxy, but Durand Durand as well.

Purvis and Wade just turned in their draft for the 22nd installment of the James Bond franchise and will make “Barbarella” their next project. No word on dates for production or release.
