BBC One’s six-part political action thriller “Bodyguard” just scored the biggest new drama launch in the UK this year – pulling in just under seven million viewers and a 35% share in overnight ratings for its debut last night.
“Game of Thrones” alum Richard Madden and “The Durrells in Corfu” lead Keeley Hawes star in the story of heroic but volatile war veteran turned Specialist Protection Officer David Budd who is assigned to protect ambitious British Home Secretary Julia Montague whose politics run contrary to his own. Budd soon finds himself torn between his duty and his beliefs – is he actually her biggest threat?
Gina McKee, Sophie Rundle, Vincent Franklin, Pippa Haywood, Stuart Bowman and Paul Ready co-star in the series which hails from “Line Of Duty” creator Jed Mercurio. Mercurio wrote the scripts and is executive producing with Simon Heath. No word on where and when it will air outside the UK at this point.
