Blu Hunt Set For “X-Men: The New Mutants”

After an international search, newcomer Blu Hunt (“The Originals”) has nabbed the lead role of Native American telepath Danielle Moonstar in Josh Boone’s “X-Men” spinoff “The New Mutants” at 20th Century Fox.

She joins a cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy (“Split”) as Magik, Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”) as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things) as Cannonball, Henry Zaga (“13 Reasons Why”) as Sunspot and Rosario Dawson.

Moonstar is said to be the last major mutant role in the film. In the comics, she has the power to create illusions drawn from the fears and desires of a person’s mind. The story follows five diverse teens learning to cope with their superpowers who must escape a secret facility in which they are being held against their will.

The new film is said to have more of a horror-thriller tone and will borrow heavily from the Demon Bear storyline which ran in the title in the 1980s. “New Mutants” is scheduled to begin filming in July in Boston.
