Cate Blanchett is in talks to star alongside Bradley Cooper in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham’s novel “Nightmare Alley” at Fox Searchlight. Filming on the project aims to begin early 2020.
Tyrone Power starred in a previous 1947 film adaptation as an ambitious young con-man who hooks up with a female psychiatrist even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the table on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.
Variety reported the Blanchett news, while Collider has posted a few additional names tipped to star including Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, Willem Dafoe, Rooney Mara, Michael Shannon and Mark Povinelli.
Del Toro will direct and produce the pic and co-wrote the script with Kim Morgan. J. Miles Dale will also produce the film which marks del Toro’s first directorial effort since his Oscar-winning film “The Shape of Water”.
