The third and final prequel short leading into Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049” has now arrived and it’s stunning.
Directed by “Samurai Champloo” and “Cowboy Bebop” director Shinichiro Watanabe, the anime short titled “Blade Runner Black Out 2022” is set three years after the original film and covers the events of a brief replicant rebellion that resulted in their production being banned for a decade.
The short film follows two replicants, Iggy and Trixie, as they evade angry mobs of humans who have militarized against replicants.
The clip comes as Villeneuve has revealed to UK mag Metro that the original plan for the villain was to cast David Bowie, that was until the famed musician and actor passed away. Ultimately Jared Leto took on the role.
“Blade Runner 2049” opens in cinemas on October 6th.
