The long in the works sequel to Ridley Scott’s seminal 1982 sci-fi classic “Blade Runner” is headed towards a $40 million or more domestic opening weekend according to early tracking figures.
Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford lead the cast of the film which picks up thirty years after the events of the original. Denis Villeneuve directs and Scott produces the film which looks set to open behind the $54 million take for Scott’s “The Martian” in the same weekend in 2015, but ahead of the $24.1 million for Villeneuve’s “Arrival” last year.
Budgeted for at least $100 million and boasting a long nearly three-hour runtime, Alcon Entertainment and Sony co-financed the film which Warners releases States-side and Sony releases everywhere else in the first week of October.
