Following on from his comments the other day about feeling the pressure of working on the sequel to Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner,” filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has now revealed that the project in question will potentially answer one decades-long mystery.
Talking up “Sicario” at the Toronto Film Festival with Crave Online, Villeneuve suggests that the new film will answer the long running mystery of whether Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard character is either a human or a replicant – a question all the various cuts of the first film left ambiguous:
“Now that I am on the other side of the fence I cannot answer… The thing I must say is that I love mystery. I love shadows. I love doubts. I would just want to say to the fans that we will take care of that mystery. I will take care of it.”
Scott himself has previously said Deckard is indeed a replicant, clearly stating in 2007: “Yes, he’s a replicant. He was always a replicant.” Ford on the other hand has long held the belief that the character is human.
Ford reprises his role as Rick Deckard in the movie.
