Amazon Studios has begun development of the drama series “Cleopatra” which is being handled by “Black Sails” creators/executive producers Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine and executive producer Dan Shotz.
Levine penned the series described as “The Godfather in Ancient Egypt,” a revisionist take on one of history’s most misunderstood women.
After nearly losing her life in a bloody coup, Cleopatra must use her natural wit and political genius to take back her throne and restore honor to her family and kingdom.
Levine is also executive producing alongside Steinberg, Shotz and Mary Beth Basile.
The project isn’t to be confused with other recent failed attempts at works about Cleopatra including a Shekhar Kapur-directed series, an NBC ongoing drama, and a Lifetime mini-series.
