“Black Panther” once again was king at the box-office, the film amassing a further $65.7 million in its third weekend which has pushed it past the $500 million mark in North America and is now approaching nearly $900 million worldwide.
It is now the tenth biggest pic of all time domestically and third biggest superhero film of all time behind only “The Dark Knight” ($535M) which it will soon pass, and “The Avengers ($623M) which it could top. Overseas where it’s not as much an outright sensation, it still pulled in a further $56.2 million and is now at an extremely impressive $396.6 million.
The film easily beat off the two wide-opening newcomers which were both dogged by bad reviews. The Jennifer Lawrence-led “Red Sparrow” scored mixed at best reception and came in under expectation with $17 million, while the heavily panned Bruce Willis-led “Death Wish” also debuted soft with $13 million. Both earned a B+ CinemaScore.
“Game Night” placed fourth with an estimated $10.7 million. Several potential Oscar Best Picture winners also saw upticks in business.
