While won’t see Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner in the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War,” the film does offer us a first glimpse at both Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Speaking with EW about the growing nature of this cinematic family, Robert Downey Jr. said he’s in awe at how big this thing is getting:
“[Don] Cheadle and I are just going, ‘Wow, dude, look at this’. We’re now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight just because of our history in the [canon]. But we’re also looking around like, ‘Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spider-Man…?’ I mean it’s like wow, this thing is just crazy.”
Boseman meanwhile spoke about his Black Panther costume, a suit infused with vibranium in the film which allows him to absorb attacks from an opponent:
“The vibranium is a metal that is dynamic. It can change how it’s used. It’s not a liquid, but it has the ability to change shape and change form and still have its strength. … It’s not just about being durable, it has the ability to absorb energy. It’s not just like you hit it and it doesn’t take it. It has the ability to absorb the attack of another person and repel or respond to that attack. That’s part of the power.”
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige meanwhile confirms that Martin Freeman’s character in ‘Civil War’ will only be a brief appearance, but it’s a role that will be expanded upon:
“He’s under the cloak of secrecy. There are a lot of amazing actors in this movie. Some of them play larger roles than others. And in some cases there are some you will meet ever so briefly in this film and then will be expanded upon in future films. [Martin Freeman’s character] falls into that latter category.”
“Captain America: Civil War” is set for release on May 6th 2016.
