Actor and producer Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been set to play the DC Comics antihero Black Adam since 2007 and while the project has come close to starting before, its status has remained stuck in development for over a decade now.
That appears to have changed as Johnson took to social media today to confirm that filming will begin in July next year. The Rock revealed the news whilst responding to a fan who created a sculpture of Johnson in the likeness of the character.
Black Adam is traditionally a “Shazam!” villain and was originally supposed to appear in this year’s “Shazam!” movie but it was opted to do a solo “Black Adam” film instead. Jaume Collet-Serra, who helms Johnson’s upcoming “Jungle Cruise” film, is attached to direct from a script by Adam Sztykiel.
