Biutiful, “Way Back” Set For December

Potential Oscar candidates have begun to seriously jockey for end of year release slots in recent weeks with two more joining the fray today.

Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu’s “Biutiful”, which premiered at Cannes to some rather divided critical reaction, has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Roadside Attractions. Roadside is scheduling a December release but hasn’t specified an exact date as yet.

Meanwhile Producer Joni Levin has revealed via his Facebook page that Peter Weir’s P.O.W. escapee drama “The Way Back” will score a one-week Oscar-qualifying release in December before a wide release on January 21st through small distributor Exclusive.

Weir’s first film since “Master And Commander” in 2003, the project was shot back in early 2009 and stars the likes of Ed Harris, Colin Farrel, Saoirse Ronan and Jim Sturgess.
