Bioshock Film On Hold Due To Cost

Universal Pictures has halted development on the “Bioshock” film adaptation due to budget concerns says Variety.

The Gore Verbinski-directed live action adaptation of the video game was gearing up to film in Los Angeles, but budget estimates rose to $160 million which has put a brake on proceedings until a more reasonable number can be reached.

John Logan adapted the script and, much like the game, the film takes place in the underwater city Rapture, where a pilot crash-lands near a secret entrance and becomes involved in a power struggle.

The studio is now looking at alternatives like shooting in London as a way to pare costs. Despite the stoppage, the studio remains determined to make the film.
