One of two final films starring a pre-disgraced Kevin Spacey that has yet to be released, “Billionaire Boys Club,” has unveiled a trailer today and confirmed a July 17th VOD release ahead of an August 17th theatrical run.
Spacey’s sexual misconduct scandal derailed the actor’s career late last year, leading to him being replaced in one movie and written off in the “House of Cards” TV series/. ‘Boys’ was essentially completed long before the scandal hit so the film is intact – the question is if anyone wants to see it.
“Kingsman” star Taron Egerton and “The Fault in Our Stars” actor Ansel Elgort join Spacey in the “Wolf of Wall Street”-esque film about a group of wealthy boys in 1980s Los Angeles come up with a plan to get-rich-quick with a Ponzi scheme.
Spacey plays Ron Levin, a high roller and con-man whom the two young men try to murder. Distributor Vertical Entertainment has released a statement as well saying: “We hope these distressing allegations pertaining to one person’s behavior — that were not publicly known when the film was made almost 2.5 years ago — do not tarnish the release. We hope audiences make up their own minds as to the reprehensible allegations of one person’s past, but not at the expense of the entire cast and crew present on this film.”
