“Dreamgirls” filmmaker and “Chicago” scribe Bill Condon has signed on pen a rewrite of Jenny Bicks’ earlier draft for the contemporary musical “The Greatest Showman on Earth” for 20th Century Fox.
Commercials director Michael Gracey will direct the biopic about legendary showman P.T. Barnum (played by Hugh Jackman) who created the three-ring circus and loved to hoax a gullible public.
One key element of this film will be Barnum’s infatuation with opera singer Jenny Lind, dubbed the Swedish Nightingale.
Jackman and Laurence Mark will produce. Jackman previously worked with Condon when the pair teamed on 2009’s much acclaimed Oscars telecast which Jackman hosted and Condon produced.
Condon will next direct the retired Sherlock Holmes film “A Slight Trick of the Mind” starring Ian McKellen.
