Bill Birch Pens “Shazam” Film Adaptation

Actor-turned-scribe Bill Birch is set to pen the script for the reboot of comic book superhero “Shazam!” for Warner Brothers Pictures says the trades.

DC Comics regular Geoff Johns will co-write the script featuring Captain Marvel, teenager Billy Batson who becomes the powerful being when uttering the titular word.

The project, previously setup at New Line, has had difficulty getting made with the likes of William Goldman, Joel Cohen, Alec Sokolow and John August all having a go at the script.

Birch, who guest starred on such shows as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Unit”, penned “One Finger Salute” for Warner Brothers.

Peter Segal (“Get Smart”) remains attached to direct and produce. Michael Ewing also produces.
